Commemoration
The All Primary School Teachers’ Association (APSTA) will celebrate the 174th death anniversary of Rev. (L) Thomas Jones I, popularly known as “The Father of the Khasi Alphabet” simultaneously with the commemoration of the 181 years of existence of Lower Primary schools in the United Khasi and Jaintia Hills. The celebration will be held at Umkor Urksew Stadium Pynursla on September 16. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma will be the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

 

Local holiday
The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills has declared September 18 as local holiday in the district on account of Unitarian Anniversary Day. All government offices, revenue and magisterial courts and educational institutions in the district will remain closed.

 

Office-bearers
UDP working president, Titostarwell Chyne on Monday formally inducted the new office-bearers of the party’s women wing. The office-bearers are Pretty Kharpyngrope (president), Romela Pdah, Meli Kharsahnoh, Elizabeth Lapang, Larimon Lartap and Wandanaka Laloo (vice presidents), Wanshida Rynjah (secretary) and Rose Synrem (treasurer), and Queen Mary Rymbai, Geneviev Pala, Bethel Warjri, Therisia Lyngdoh and S Bamon (joint secretaries).
