Ove 300 students from Sankardev conducted the public Walk for Freedom to raise awareness about human trafficking at Shillong this morning.
The walk was declared open by Herbert G Lyngdoh, Superintendent of Police, Anti-Infiltration Directorate.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Human trafficking is a big challenge and the law enforcers have succeeded in many ways to arrest this scourge that inflicts the society and it is heartening to see the college authority collaborating with NGO’s from the state and Mumbai to spread awareness to tackle this menace.”
At the start of the walk, participants took a pledge to do everything possible within their means to help end trafficking in their lifetimes.
This was Shillong’s third year participating in the Walk for Freedom, and the one led by Sankardev College was one of the three walks in Shillong this year and is made possible by the coming together of the city’s colleges, corporates and civil society community members.
