22 killed, 60 injured in Maine, US mass shooting

Shillong, October 26: A horrific mass shooting incident in Lewiston, Maine, has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 22 lives and left nearly 60 others injured.

According to a report by Fox News, this devastating event occurred late on a Wednesday night, local time.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office posted two distressing photographs of the suspect, armed and in a firing stance, on Facebook, stating that the assailant was still at large, as per Reuters.

Subsequently, the identity of the perpetrator in this mass shooting was disclosed as Robert Card, a firearms instructor in the US Army Reserve. He had recently been discharged from a mental health facility, where he sought treatment for hallucinations.

As per India Today, in the wake of this tragedy, the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston issued a statement acknowledging that they were responding to a mass casualty, mass shooter incident. They were actively coordinating with nearby hospitals to accommodate the influx of patients.

Reports indicated that emergency personnel were summoned to separate shooting scenes at a bowling alley, a restaurant, and a Walmart distribution center, as detailed by the Sun Journal.

The Maine State Police, in response to information about an active shooter situation in multiple locations, issued a shelter-in-place order for residents of the state’s second-largest city, as reported by the Associated Press. They urged the community to stay off the roads to facilitate emergency responders’ access to hospitals.

Lewiston, located in Androscoggin County, is approximately 35 miles north of Portland, Maine’s largest city.
