SHILLONG, Oct 27: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Government of India has awarded 5G Lab to the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering NIT Meghalaya on Friday.
According to a statement here, the labs were awarded to NIT Meghalaya and ninety-nine other institutes in the country by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the inaugural ceremony of Indian Mobile Congress 2023, which was held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi.
The award ceremony was attended by the Director NIT Meghalaya Prof. Pinakeswar Mahanta, faculties, staff, and students along with the officials of DoT Shillong in virtual mode.
The objective of the lab is to build competencies and engagement of students and faculties of NIT Meghalaya to develop Indian specific devices and systems using 5G technologies for rural and remote areas.
NIT Meghalaya will be one of the front leaders among 100 institutes to design, develop, and deploy the 5G and 6G technologies in India, the statement said.
