Tura/Resubelpara/Jowai/Nongstoin/Nongpoh, Oct 27: With the launching of the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls with January 1, 2024 as the qualifying date at a state level function in East Khasi Hills, simultaneously, the draft electoral rolls for state districts were also handed over to representatives of various national and state recognised political parties on Friday.
In West Garo Hills, the draft electoral rolls both in hard and soft copy for 11 assembly constituencies falling under West Garo Hills was handed over to different political parties in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Tura and also in the office chamber of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Dadenggre.
The total number of electorates for the 11 assembly constituencies of West Garo Hills is 366649 with 182743 males and 183905 females, one transgender and 539 polling stations.
In North Garo Hills, it was handed over to representatives of various political parties in the conference chamber of the district deputy commissioner’s office, Resubelpara.
ADC (Election), Kapil Koch informed that there are 1,37,057 electors in the district comprising from all the four assembly constituencies viz; Kharkutta, Mendipathar, Resubelpara and Bajengdoba.
In Jaintia Hills, the electoral rolls for Nartiang, Jowai, Raliang and Mowkaiaw have been published and distributed by Deputy Commissioner B S Sohliya, IAS to political representatives in the conference Hall of West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office.
For the three constituencies falling under West Khasi Hills – Nongstoin, Rambrai Jyrngam and Mawshynrut constituencies the draft electoral roll was formally released in a meeting at the DC’s office Nongstoin.
The district level function on Special Summary Revision of photo electoral roll was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioners’ office, Nongpoh. The programme concluded with the handing over of the draft electoral roll to all representatives of political parties.
It has been notified that as per the schedule of the Election Commission of India, claims and objections can be filed from October 27 to December 9 at respective polling stations where booth level officers are already in place.
During this period, cooperation from all the political parties has been urged to ensure accuracy of the electoral role and to prevent any eligible voters from being left out.
Eligible youths who have reached the age of 18 are encouraged to submit their application for inclusion in the electoral roll for active participation in the electoral process
Additionally, a special campaign on Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP) in order to create awareness among the voters the importance of enrolling under the voters’ list and participation in the electoral system shall be held in all district polling stations on November 11 and 18.
