SHILLONG, Nov 5: In a festive prelude to the upcoming Christmas season, Courtyard by Marriott orchestrated a traditional cake mixing ceremony on Sunday. The event was attended by individuals from diverse backgrounds, spanning bureaucrats, musicians, vloggers, and in-house members.
The traditional cake mixing ceremony, which traditionally occurs one month ahead of Christmas, is a revered ritual believed to usher in good fortune and festive merriment. Before the actual cake preparation commences, it’s the exuberance and enthusiasm displayed during the mixing of a diverse assortment of ingredients that sets the stage for holiday cheer.
This concoction involves an assortment of fruits and nuts, all destined to be integrated into the time-honored plum cake.
Every component, from spirits and dried fruits to cherries, dates, and spices, is meticulously blended and soaked in alcoholic elixirs such as brandy, rum, and wine.
This soaking process allows these ingredients to mature, imparting rich flavors, before they are used in the baking of the cakes.
Angad Garewal, the Head Chef of Courtyard by Marriott, shared these insights into the tradition that apparently has been in use since the 17th century.
