Govt seeks $50 mn loan for upgrade of anganwadi centres

Shillong, Nov 28: The state government is looking to avail $50 million loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB) for upgrade of existing Anganwadi Centres across the state.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary in-charge Social Welfare Department, Sampath Kumar informed that the process for availing the loan for improvement of anganwadi centres across the state is in the final stage. He further pointed out that during a joint inspection conducted by the department and the C&RD department, it was found out that around 273 anganwadi centres need to be replaced by new ones and there are about 2290 centers which needs to be upgraded.
‘The loan amount from ADB and funds from MGNREGA will be used for the improvement and setting of new Anganwadi centres’.
According to him, there is a proposal to set up the new Anganwadi centers for about 1500 uncovered villages.
