Campaign to end gender-based violence in Ri-Bhoi

Nongpoh, Dec 5: In a bid to address gender related violence and issues, the National Campaign to Eliminate Gender-Based Violence 2.0 was launched at Science Hall in Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi on Tuesday.
The launching event was orchestrated by the office of the District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) in collaboration with the district administration.
The event drew the presence of SHGs members, village organisations from various villages and blocks, as well as headmen and other community leaders and stakeholders who will play a role in eliminating gender related violence.
Addressing the audience, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Raja Brahma expressed concern over the escalating cases of violence against women and children. Commending the central government for spearheading this campaign, he emphasized its overarching goal of eradicating prevalent societal issues such as violence, discrimination, and exploitation against women, while underscoring the campaign’s potential to raise awareness and empower victims to report incidents without fear or hesitation.
Khongsni in his speech informed attendees that the Elimination Gender-Based Violence 2.0 campaign is in effect from November 22nd to December 22nd, 2023 while urging SHG members and headmen to act as messengers within their communities, fostering collaboration to put an end to gender-based violence.
The launching programme featured speakers from different line departments addressing critical topics such as the POCSO Act, crimes against women and children, domestic violence, workplace harassment, and child marriage.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi, District Mission Manager DMMU and other officials were also present.
