Shillong, Dec 5: With the winter session of the KHADC slated to begin here from December 20, the opposition UDP is all set to forge strategy to corner the NPP-led executive committee on several important issues.
The opposition members would raise issues pertaining to the clan bill, toll gates and the style and functioning of the present executive committee, delimitation of constituencies, boundary issue and a host of other important issues through motions, resolutions and even in the form of questions, Opposition leader, Titosstarwell Chyne told The Shillong Times here on Tuesday.
Upset with the way the NPP-led EC is functioning, Chyne said “The previous EC would always engage with the members from the opposition on various initiatives and policies. But the present body does not feel it necessary to inform or involve the opposition MDCs”.
The opposition would enquire on the status of toll gates since many illegal toll gates were shut down by the previous executive committee, Chyne further asserted.
They would also like to know about the clan bill, as till now the special committee constituted by the EC to examine is yet to meet, Chyne said.
The Opposition Leader also said that the EC has constituted the delimitation committee to determine the boundaries of the 29 existing constituencies under its jurisdiction.
“We would like to know if they have set the deadline for the delimitation committee to complete the exercise,” Chyne added.
Earlier, the Opposition Leader had blasted the EC for failing to convene the council session, which was scheduled for October.
“The council must meet at least once in every four months. However, I was shocked to learn in a letter that the session has been rescheduled till December”.
He declared that counting the extraordinary session as a regular session by the EC was completely unjustified.
