Rape convict gets 20 years in jail in POCSO case

SHILLONG, Dec 8: One person has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a POCSO Court for raping a minor in the city.
East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtnger said a FIR was received at Mawlai police station on November 2, 2021, stating that Dresstar Kurbah had allegedly sexually assaulted a fifteen-year-old girl sometime in June 2021.
After a case was filed at Mawlai PS, WP/Sub-Inspector Lavinia S Kongwang conducted an investigation and filed a chargesheet.
Following trial in the court of the Special Judge (POCSO), Shillong, Kurbah was found guilty for the offences after which the court passed the judgment on Wednesday sentencing him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 20 years with a fine of Rs 10,000.
