Newborn found dumped in garbage collection truck

Shillong, Feb 8: A male newborn baby was recovered from a garbage collection truck at Shanmari, Lumshyiap here on Thursday morning.

It has been informed that the infant was discovered in the garbage truck by the driver and helper when they were sorting the garbage which they had collected from the residents.

Rangbah Shnong of Lumshyiap, Phira Khongphai said that he was informed by the driver of the garbage truck  about the recovery of the newborn at around 8 am.

He also informed that members of the Seng Samla, Seng Longkmie and few members of the Executive Committee (EC) of the Dorbar Shong went house to house in the locality to find out who had dumped the newborn in the garbage truck.

According to the Rangbah Shnong, they will try to find out those responsible within the next 24 hours.
“We will not allow such people continue to stay in our locality once we find out,” Khongphai said.
The Lumshyiap Dorbar Shnong also strongly condemned this incident. The newborn was taken charge of by the police of Pasteur Beat house.
