National Conference on Bioresources and Sustainability concludes at USTM

Guwahati, April 3:  The two-day long National Conference on Bioresources and Sustainability: Current Trends and Future Prospects (NCBS-2024) has been successfully concluded here today at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). The conference was organised by the Department of Applied Biology, USTM in association with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI) under the theme of VIKSHIT BHARAT 2047. It was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST-SERB), Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India, according to a Press release.

This year, NCBS 2024 aims to foster collaboration and exchange of ideas between academia and industry, recognizing the pivotal role they play in advancing research and innovation in the field of bioresource utilization and sustainable development. The theme of this year’s conference, “Current Trends and Future Prospects,” underscores the commitment to exploring innovative approaches and emerging technologies that hold promise for sustainable development.

The conference was successful with the presence of three eminent personalities: Prof K. Natarajaseenivasan, Director, ICMR (RMRC) Dibrugarh, Dr. Bikash Medhi, Prof. Department of Pharmacology, PGMIER Chandigarh and Dr. A.M Deshmukh, President MBSI. The inaugural ceremony was also graced by Prof. G.D Sharma, VC, USTM, Dr R.K Sharma, Advisor, USTM and others.

Dr. Deboja Sharma, HoD, Department of Applied Biology, USTM welcomed all the delegates from various parts of the country. About 450 participants from 16 universities and 5 states besides NE India joined the Conference. Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanty was the convenor of the NCBS-2024.

Some distinguished participants of the Conference include Dr. Hemen Sarma from Bodoland University; Dr. Debasish Nayak from MSCB university, Orissa; Prof, PK Baruah, Department of Botany USTM; Shri Saravanan Muthupardian, SIMATS, Chennai; Prof. Kandarpa Saikia, GU, Dr. Shama Beig, SSUM Chattisgarh, Dr. Swapnil Sinha, CEO, BioNEST-IITG; Dr. Sarvesh Rastogi, Associate Professor, Uttaranchal University; Dr. Debajit Thakur, Associate Professor, IASST, Gauhati; Dr. Pankaj Bharali, Scientist CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat.

The valedictory session today started with the welcome speech by Dr. Tamanna Bhuyan, Assistant Professor and organizing secretary of NCBS. The final report of the conference was delivered by Satyakam Agarwala, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Biology, USTM, and a vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sony Kumari, Associate Prof. Department of Applied Biology, USTM.
