City to get its first shopping mall in Aug

SHILLONG, June 16: Shillongites’ wait for their first shopping mall is set to end in August when the Polo shopping mall, which is being constructed under the Shillong Smart City project, will be inaugurated in August.
The work on the shopping mall is nearing completion and the government is hopeful of opening it for the public in August. At present, almost 95% of the work has been completed, officials said.
Government sources said that the painting and finishing work is being carried out while other construction work has been completed.
The six-storied shopping mall will have space for 90 shops and a mechanized car parking space. The complex will have as many as 12 escalators and five lifts.
The shopping mall will house a food court, EV charging facilities, office space on the 5th and 6th floors, besides other facilities.
The shopping complex will also have a kids’ zone and is expected to provide people with quality facilities for their shopping needs.
The total built-up area of the project is 1.5 lakh square feet and it is being constructed by Badri Rai Company at a cost of Rs 85 crore.
The contract for the project was awarded on August 21, 2020, and construction activities commenced in November of the same year.
