Govt pats professionals as state celebrates healthcare feats

SHILLONG, July 23: The state government has commended the efforts of healthcare professionals and encouraged them to continue serving better as Meghalaya made significant strides in the healthcare sector, achieving frontrunner status in Good Health and Well-Being in the latest Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) India Index 2023-24.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony for felicitation of Kayakalp Awardees, organised by the Joint Directorate Quality Committee and Quality & Patient Safety Division, Commissioner and Secretary Joram Beda praised the outstanding contributions of the state’s healthcare professionals to quality healthcare and patient safety.
“You have shown the way, you have shown the path to the department and to the government functionaries as to how hospital administration has to be run. The SDG index reflects that Meghalaya has done very well. Now, we are in the frontrunner category, and it is all due to the efforts of each one of you. The awards we have given out today are a testament to your hard work, and this is a collaborative effort that contributes to the achievement of the state government in SDG 3 – health and well-being,” he said.
Key awardees included Ganesh Das Government MCH Hospital in Shillong, which was named the best district hospital and lauded for achieving the prestigious LaQshya Certification for its OT department.
On the other hand, Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital in Mairang and Williamnagar Civil Hospital in East Garo Hills received Commendation Awards.
In the Community Health Centres (CHCs) category, Resubelpara CHC emerged as the winner, with Mawphlang CHC as the runner-up.
Reid Provincial Chest Hospital in Shillong was recognised as the best district hospital in the eco-friendly health facilities category, while Resubelpara CHC was also honoured for its eco-friendly initiatives.
Primary Health Centers (PHCs) that stood out included Dainadubi PHC in North Garo Hills, Siju PHC in South Garo Hills, Nongspung PHC in East Khasi Hills, Umden PHC in Ri-Bhoi, Babadam PHC in West Garo Hills, and Garobadha PHC in South West Garo Hills.
In the Health and Wellness Centres category, Laitnongskeh sub-centre, Langtor sub-centre, and Raitong sub-centre emerged as winners. Loomkyrwiang was recognised as the best urban primary health centre.
Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh, emphasising the importance of persistent efforts, said, “Trying is the key to success, and I am hopeful that one day, we will deliver the best services to the people of the state, providing them with urgent services when they need them most. I must thank all.”
The programme was also attended by Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, Ramkumar S.
