45 Karatekas to represent state at All India Karate C’ship

Shillong, July 30: Led by Mr. Donboklang Lyngdoh, Mr. Arjun Sewaq, and Mr. GEM Kharpurri, 45 karatekas from their association are set to participate in the All India Independence Karate Championship 2024. The event will take place at Talkotara Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, from August 1st to 4th, 2024.
The selected participants include a range of talented athletes across various age groups and weight categories. Notable entries in the girls’ category are Nelisha Kharphan (12 Years, -35 Kg), Xenia Rose Nongseij (12 Years, -42 Kg & Individual Kata), and Esaranaki Kharjana (12 Years, -47 Kg & Individual Kata). In the cadet division, Sa-i-banmanbha S Blah (Cadet, -54 Kg) and Sonali D Sangma (Cadet, -61 Kg) are expected to make significant impacts.
Among the boys, promising karatekas such as Fadrik Wanniang (12 Years, -40 Kg), Samuel Kurbah (13 Years, -40 Kg & Individual Kata), and Nathaniel J Thongni (13 Years, -55 Kg & Individual Kata) will compete. The junior category features standout competitors like Ferdinand Samkupar Rani (Junior, -50 Kg, Individual Kata & Team Kata) and Gregorwilson Makdoh (Junior, -61 Kg, Individual Kata & Team Kata).
In the men’s category, participants include Kmenlang Shabong (-50 Kg), Nangkitbok Phira (-55 Kg), and Ialamphang Kharkongor (-75 Kg).
This championship is a platform for these dedicated athletes to showcase their skills and represent their association and region with pride. The event promises to be a significant milestone in their karate careers.
