SHILLONG, Sep 21: Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon on Friday urged outgoing students of Don Bosco College, Byndihati, to take on the mantle of social change and contribute to the upliftment of society.
Speaking during the Graduation Day at the college as the chief guest, the MP commended the founders of the institution for their dedication to providing educational opportunities in a region with one of the lowest literacy rates in India.
Syngkon praised the foresight of the college’s founders in establishing the institution in Byndihati, noting its positive impact on education in the disadvantaged area.
Head of Education Department, NEHU, Dr. Sherwin M Sungoh, who was the keynote speaker, emphasised the importance of pursuing excellence and turning challenges into opportunities.
She encouraged the graduates to see adversity as a pathway to personal growth and success.
The ceremony also featured the National Anthem, the conferment of degree certificates, and the presentation of the Excellence Awards for outstanding academic achievements.
Cultural performances were another highlight of the event.
Notably, this year, two students from the college secured ranks in the NEHU examinations, viz. Richard Siangshai (5th Rank in Education) and Rajashree Deori (7th Rank in English).
