3rd M’laya Open Cash Prize Tournament on October 4-5

Shillong, Sep 28: The Laban Sports Club Table Tennis Academy, Shillong, will host the 3rd Meghalaya Open Cash Prize Tournament 2024 on October 4 and 5, featuring a total cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
Categories for the competition include: U-13 Boys and Girls Singles; U-15 Boys and Girls Singles; Men and Women Singles; Men’s Doubles; Veteran Men’s Singles (45 years and above); Veteran Men’s Doubles (45 years and above)
The veteran doubles partners will be decided by a lottery system in front of the chief referee.

The event will take place at the Laban Sports Club Indoor Hall, located behind Red Cross Hospital, Shillong, Meghalaya (793004). All matches will be conducted according to the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) knockout rules.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Jitendra Gareri, Head Coach of Laban Sports Club Table Tennis Academy, stated, “The tournament is scheduled for October 4 and 5, and we’ve already received 30 entries from outside Meghalaya, with more expected.
The previous two editions were limited to participants from Meghalaya, but due to increased popularity and demand from other states, we have opened the third edition to everyone.
This move will help our players gain valuable experience by competing with players from other states, thus improving their standard for national-level tournaments.”With the expansion of the Meghalaya Open to participants from across the country, the Laban Sports Club Table Tennis Academy aims to elevate the quality of competition, providing local talent with an opportunity to test their skills against a broader field.
The tournament not only promises thrilling matches for spectators but also serves as a vital platform for emerging players to prepare for higher-level competitions, ultimately fostering growth in the sport within the region.
