MP bus accident: Death toll rises to 9
MAIHAR, (MP) Sep 29: The death toll in the accident of a private bus in Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar district has gone up to nine as three more persons succumbed to their injuries, police said on Sunday.The deceased hailed from Jaunpur and Pratapgarh in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, they said.Nearly 20 persons were also injured after the bus rammed into a stationary stone-laden truck in Maihar around 11 pm on Saturday, they said.Cases have been registered against the truck driver, who is absconding, and the injured bus driver, police said.The accident occurred on National Highway 30.The bus started from Prayagraj with around 45 passengers and was heading for Nagpur via Rewa when it crashed police said. While six persons died on the spot, three more succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Satna, taking the death toll to nine.The deceased, all male, included a four-year-old boy, the official said.The deceased have been identified, and six of them hailed from Jaunpur and three from Pratapgarh.The official said it appeared that the bus was speeding.Rescue teams used a gas cutter and an excavator machine to extricate passengers from the wreckage, police said. Tuition teacher, his brothers accused of student’s rape
MUMBAI, Sep 29: A private coaching class teacher and his two brothers were arrested in connection with the alleged rape and molestation of a 16-year-old girl student in Mumbai, police said on Sunday.An FIR was registered recently after the girl confided in her family members, who approached the police.The main accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, a class 9 student, on two occasions between July and December 2023, a police official said.The complainant stated that two brothers of the accused, all in their late 20s, molested her separately in a movie theatre and in a classroom of the institute between 2022 and December 2023.Police registered an FIR and arrested the three brothers. Odisha:Internet ban extended in violence-hit district
BHADRAK, (Odisha) Sep 29: The Odisha government on Sunday extended the suspension of internet services in Bhadrak district for two more days to restore normalcy after violence erupted between two groups over an “objectionable” social media post.On Friday, the local administration imposed indefinite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, to maintain order.As of now, police have arrested 15 people, including the main accused who posted the controversial content online.Initially, internet services were suspended for 48 hours, set to end at 2 am on September 30. However, this period has now been extended by another 48 hours to help manage the situation. In a bid to bolster security, two companies of the Rapid Action Force have been dispatched from the Ministry of Home Affairs; one company has been deployed in Bhadrak town while the other is stationed in Dhamnagar.In addition to the RAF, 10 platoons of Odisha Police have been stationed in Puranabazar area of Bhadrak town, with another five platoons assigned to Dhamnagar.
