NEHU delegation discusses skill devp initiatives with Union min
SHILLONG, Oct 2: A delegation from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla and Prof Sherwin May Sungoh, met Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, during the North Eastern Skill Conclave at IIM Shillong on Tuesday. The discussion centered on NEHU’s efforts to promote skill development and entrepreneurship in the Northeast, particularly through the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC), Wahiajer. Prof Sherwin May Sungoh outlined DDUCC’s vocational programmes, which align with UGC guidelines and aim to elevate the status of vocational education. The college focuses on empowering rural communities by developing and commercialising traditional skills, with a particular focus on the Jaintia Hills region. Prof Shukla also highlighted NEHU’s recently established Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) in Shillong, which encourages innovation and entrepreneurial ventures. The meeting concluded with discussions on upcoming entrepreneurship programmes, including start-up grants of Rs 5 lakh for participants, supported by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship and North Eastern Council, Shillong.

Hindi fortnight ceremony at AG Office in city concludes
SHILLONG, Oct 2: The office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit) Meghalaya, the office of the Principal Accountant General (A&E) Meghalaya, and the Regional Capacity Building and Knowledge Institute jointly celebrated the closing ceremony of Hindi Fortnight at the Civil Accounts Sports and Cultural Club in Shillong on September 30. Assistant Professor of the Hindi Department at NEHU, Shillong, Dr Filmeca Marbaniang, was the chief guest. In his welcome address, Mathews Mathew, Deputy Accountant General (Audit), emphasised the importance of Hindi as the Rajbhasha of India and its special place in the Constitution. The event aimed to promote proficiency in Hindi among non-Hindi speaking personnel through various competitions. Cash awards were distributed to winners in competitions like ‘Antakshari’, translation, Hindi essay writing, and Hindi poetry. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Ratul Chandra Borah, Deputy Accountant General.

Northeast postal circle conference stresses on improving services
SHILLONG, Oct 2: The Chief Postmaster General, North-East Circle, organized a Circle Conference for the Heads of Postal Divisions and Sub-Divisions at Hotel Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong, on September 30. A total of 78 officers from across the North East Postal Circle participated in the event, aimed at enhancing postal services in the region. Chief Postmaster General Sanjiv Ranjan emphasised the need for every post office in the Northeast to provide comprehensive services, including Post Office Savings Bank, Postal Life Insurance, Aadhaar enrollment, and India Post Payments Bank, ensuring that financial inclusion reaches every resident. He urged Sub-Divisional Heads to adopt two villages each month, transforming them into Sampoorna Dak Pariseva Grams through full postal service coverage.
