KHLIEHRIAT, Nov 26: The East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner has informed that in view of the commencement of the construction and repair work on National Highway-6, spanning from Lumshnong to Malidor, new traffic regulations have been introduced in collaboration with local police and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
According to the DC, the regulations are aimed at facilitating the smooth progress of the project while ensuring road safety.
As per authorities, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will continue to have access to both sides of the road, with appropriate signage and clear pathways guiding commuters. However, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be restricted to one-way traffic under strict regulation and monitoring by police officers on duty.
It may be mentioned that in order to enhance safety during the ongoing construction, the NHAI will install signages to ensure visibility at night and place warning signs at critical locations, including bridges, culverts and areas with significant potholes.
In instances where complete road closures become necessary, NHAI will also work closely with the local police to provide advance notice and minimise disruptions to public mobility.
Meanwhile, commuters have been advised to follow the updated traffic regulations and remain alert for further notifications regarding the roadwork in the coming weeks.
