SHILLONG, Dec 16: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Monday slammed the Voice of the People Party for its opposition to rock concerts and musical events in Shillong.
Sangma said friends and families of those who opposed the Bryan Adams concert actually attended the concert and even sang the songs of the legendary singer.
The minister asserted that events of this magnitude where an international star performs in the city will only take Shillong to greater heights.
“The message has gone across the world and people now know that Bryan Adams performed in Shillong,” he said.
Sangma wanted to know if the VPP will prohibit artistes and groups like the Shillong Chamber Choir if they ever come to power in Meghalaya.
Reminding that Shillong has the tag of being the “Rock Capital of India”, he was of the opinion that more such events should be organised and popular artistes should be invited to perform in Shillong.
Making it clear that top artistes and performers will help boost tourism in Meghalaya, he wondered if the VPP will stop great footballers like Ronaldo and Messi if they ever come to play in Shillong.
