SHILLONG, March 3: In an initiative that aims to ensure better access to institutional credit for the farming community, a webinar on ‘Enhancing Access to Institutional Credit through Kisan Credit Cards (KCC)’ was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare here on Saturday.
The programme was attended by 45 farmers from two venues — 35 participants from Shillong and 10 from Tura. These farmers gained crucial insights into the KCC scheme, which aims to provide affordable and accessible credit to farmers for agricultural needs, helping them meet their financial requirements for crop cultivation, purchase of seeds, fertilisers, and other farming inputs.
The event was also attended by bankers from various institutions including Lead District Managers (LDMs) from all districts, and the Convener of the State Level Bankers’ Committee.
The participants expressed gratitude for the information shared and a stronger understanding of how they can leverage institutional credit to improve their farming practices.
