Archery tourney to encourage women in sports held in EJH

Khliehriat, March 10: In a bid to foster a vibrant sporting culture and encourage greater participation among women, the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, in collaboration with the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills, and Rymbai Government Higher Secondary School Khelo India Centre, organized an Archery Tournament at Rymbai Wahshnong Playground on March 8.
The event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with District Sports Officer Smti. Stephanie M. Rapsang gracing the occasion alongside Rymbai Government Higher Secondary School Principal Smti. Younilas Lamare, Finance Secretary of Rymbai Village Shri C.F. Bareh, General Secretary of East Jaintia Hills District Sports Association (EJDSA) Shri Coming Tlang, and other dignitaries.
The tournament featured women participants competing in the Senior, Junior, and Sub-Junior categories, highlighting the growing interest in archery among young athletes. Winners in the individual category were awarded cash prizes, with first-place winners receiving ₹1,500, second-place ₹1,000, and third-place ₹500.
In the Senior Individual Category, Isabella Tlang emerged victorious, followed by Gratify Nongpluh in second place and Aibanhun Lyngdoh in third. The Junior category saw Jasmine Nongpluh claim the top spot, with Ebanroiki Bareh and Fatima Lyngdoh finishing second and third, respectively. In the Sub-Junior category, Philawanshwa Thoo secured first place, with Tredaka Nongtdu and Victoria Rymbai finishing second and third.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to nurture sporting talent at the grassroots level and enhance opportunities for women athletes in East Jaintia Hills.
