This year’s edition featured nine dynamic bands from various districts, competing not just for the coveted title but also to spread a powerful message on HIV/AIDS awareness.
A flagship initiative, Meghalaya Icon or popularly known as the ‘Meg Icon’ has been instrumental in using music as a tool for social change, educating and engaging young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Organised in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS), the event leverages music and youth culture to raise awareness about HIV prevention, reduce stigma, and promote responsible behavior.
Over the years, the event has grown into one of the state’s most impactful youth-centric awareness campaigns, blending entertainment with education. Participating bands are encouraged to incorporate messages about safe practices, HIV testing, treatment access, and the importance of breaking stereotypes surrounding the disease.
