BSF nabs seven B’deshis to foil illegal entry bid along border

SHILLONG, March 15: In a series of successful operations, alert troops of the BSF apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian nationals in the bordering areas of East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills districts.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops of the 172nd Battalion BSF conducted a special operation in the bordering area of East Jaintia Hills, leading to the apprehension of four Bangladeshi nationals. These individuals were attempting to enter India reportedly to attend a ring ceremony of their relatives who are already settled in the country. All apprehended persons are confirmed residents of Bangladesh.
In another case, troops of 22nd Battalion BSF nabbed three Bangladeshi nationals from the Indo-Bangladesh border in South Garo Hills while they were attempting to enter India in search of employment opportunities. Their movement was successfully intercepted, preventing unauthorised border crossing.
Additionally, in a separate operation, troops of 4th Battalion BSF apprehended two Indian nationals along with a vehicle loaded with sugar near the international border on Nayabazar-Pynursla PWD road in East Khasi Hills. The individuals were attempting to smuggle the consignment into Bangladesh.
The seized vehicle and individuals were handed over to the concerned authorities for further action.
It may be noted that a large number of cases of people trying to cross over from Bangladesh into the Indian territory have been reported since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in the neighouring country.
