Padma Awards
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has informed that the Padma Awards will be announced on the occasion of the Republic Day 2026. In this regard, individuals from the district, who desire their names to be recommended to the government for the award, have been requested to send their nominations to the Office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner on or before June 20. It may be mentioned that the Padma Awards, viz. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, seek to recognise work of any distinction and are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/services in all fields of disciplines such as Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicines, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry, etc. “All persons, without any distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards,” a statement in this regard said.

Celebrations
Madan Hindi Pathshala Secondary School, Madanrting, on April 10 celebrated its diamond jubilee with a grand event. According to a statement here, the school fraternity, on the occasion, remembered and paid rich tribute to the school founder, Dew Kumari Chhetri. As part of the programme, meritorious students and achievers in various events and fields were felicitated. “Various cultural programmes, showcasing diversity and unique blend of North East, thrilled the audience, leaving a timeless memory to be cherished throughout,” the statement said.
