Condolence
Tura MP Saleng Sangma has condoled the demise of Holy Father Pope Francis, stating that the Catholic Church leader spent his life being a steady, compassionate voice, who was always grounded in humility, hope, and unshakable faith. “He reached across boundaries of faith, of class, of nation, and reminded us what it means to care deeply for one another. From the margins to the mainstream, he championed the dignity of every human being and brought moral clarity to some of the most urgent issues of our time,” Sangma said.
Condemnation
The Urdu Society of India, Shillong, has strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Pahalgam, Anantnag, in Jammu and Kashmir. The society stated that the Centre must take stringent steps against the terrorists who perpetrated the heinous crime. It also conveyed condolences over the demise of Pope Francis, while stating that he will be remembered for his compassion and humility.
Conviction
The court of Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, SG Momin, has convicted one Pynshngainborlang Wansai, sentencing him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 10,000 for an offence punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo further imprisonment for two months. The case was registered with Shella Police Station in 2018, and was investigated by WP/SI L Kharjana, presently posted at Lumdiengjri PS.
Commemoration
The Commemoration of the134th Khongjom War (Anglo-Manipur War) 1891 was observed in Shillong on Wednesday by the Manipuri Elders’ Consortium Shillong, remembering the brave Manipuri warriors who were martyred for the motherland in the battlefield against the British forces.
