SHILLONG, May 16: Labour Minister Shakliar Warjri has directed Labour inspectors to conduct inspections across construction sites in all districts of Meghalaya to detect illegal Bangladeshi workers.
The move comes amid concerns that many Bangladeshi workers may end up working in the state due to the volatile situation in the neighbouring country.
Warjri mandates all labourers to register with the Labour department before starting any work in the state.
He made it clear that contractors must register all their workers before receiving the final work order. He emphasized that the department is taking matters seriously and has given necessary directions to the Labour inspectors to begin the inspection.
