Out on morning walk, UP youth shot dead in front of friends
Budaun, June 15: A 23-year-old man who was out on a morning walk with his friends in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district was shot dead on Sunday, police said. At around 5 am, while Kartavya Patel, a resident of Badarpur village, was out walking with his friends in the Civil Lines police station area, he got into an argument with a person, identified as Shaurya Thakur, they said. The situation escalated and Thakur allegedly fired three rounds from an illegal firearm, the police said. While one bullet struck Patel, his two friends narrowly escaped the attack. They immediately rushed Patel to a district hospital, where doctors declared him dead, they said. Circle Officer (CO) Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyay said Thakur is absconding and efforts are being made to arrest him. (PTI)

Cops foil target killing plot by Canada-based terrorist
Chandigarh, June 15: Punjab Police has foiled a target killing plot orchestrated by Canada-based terrorist Arsh Dala and arrested two key operatives of the module, officials said on Sunday. According to preliminary investigation, the arrested individuals were acting on the directions of Arsh Dala to eliminate rival gang members and extortion targets, DGP Gaurav Yadav posted on X. “In a major breakthrough, State Special Operations Cell (#SSOC), Punjab, foils a target killing plot orchestrated by Canada-based terrorist Arsh Dala and apprehends two key operatives – Kawaljit Singh, R/o Dharamkot, and Navdeep Singh @ Hani, R/o Badduwal,” the DGP said in the post. He added that with this timely and intelligence-led operation, the SSOC has successfully busted a targeted killing module, averting a serious threat to public safety. Police also seized one Zigana .30 bore pistol (Turkish made) and nine live cartridges during the operation, the DGP said. (PTI)

Key associate of ‘Dr Death’ held in UP’s Aligarh after 21 years
New DelhI, June 15: A key associate of notorious serial killer Devender Sharma alias ‘Dr Death’ has been arrested by Delhi Police from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh after remaining on the run for 21 years, an official on Sunday said. The accused, identified as Rajender alias Rajua (59), is a resident of Kasimpur in Aligarh and a proclaimed offender, he said. The official said that Rajender was apprehended on June 14 by a team of Crime Branch. “He was wanted in a 2004 case of murder, kidnapping, causing disappearance of evidence, criminal conspiracy and common intention at Sarita Vihar Police Station,” the police officer said. “A court had declared Rajender a proclaimed offender in the case, but he had managed to evade arrest for over two decades,” the officer added. Rajender was a close accomplice of Sharma, who was arrested from Rajasthan’s Dausa on May 19. Sharma, a notorious serial killer and Ayurveda practitioner, infamously dubbed “Doctor Death” was arrested by Delhi Police after jumping parole last year. “Rajender was involved in multiple killings, primarily of truck and taxi drivers, along with Sharma and other gang members,” said the police officer.
