Cyclists shine at NEHU MTB Championship 2025

Shillong, June 29: In a spirited celebration of adventure sports and regional unity, the North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU), in collaboration with the Meghalaya Cycling Association (MCA), successfully hosted the MTB Cycling Competition 2025 on Saturday at the NEHU Cycling Track near the Convocation Hall.
The event drew energetic participation from cyclists across India, with a strong presence from the Northeastern states, highlighting the growing popularity of mountain biking in the region.
The competition, which began at 10:30 AM and concluded at 12:30 PM, was not only a test of stamina and speed but also a celebration of youthful passion and sportsmanship.The race was graced by several dignitaries, including Prof. Sumarbin Umdor, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEHU; Mr. Lening Bareh, President of the Meghalaya Cycling Association; Mr. Sandy Sohtun, President of NEHUSU; and Soki Syrti, Sports Secretary of NEHUSU. Office bearers from both NEHUSU and MCA were also present, extending their support to the young athletes.The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony where top performers were felicitated with cash prizes sponsored by the organisers. Khariksing Adonis Tangpu from Manipur secured first place and received ₹30,000, followed by Meghalaya’s Kevin John Kyllait in second place with ₹20,000, and Arianborlang Mawblei in third place with ₹10,000. Consolation prizes of ₹5,000 each were awarded to Ronel Khundrakpam, Tajum Dere from Arunachal Pradesh, and Riviklang Lyngdoh Nonglait from Meghalaya.
The organisers extended heartfelt congratulations to all winners and expressed deep gratitude to every cyclist, volunteer, and supporter who made the event a grand success.
The MTB Cycling Competition 2025 not only showcased the athletic prowess of participants but also reinforced the importance of promoting cycling culture and outdoor sports among youth in the region.
With growing enthusiasm and institutional support, the event is expected to become an annual fixture in Meghalaya’s sporting calendar.
