9th EKH District Open Badminton C’ship 2025 concludes successfully

Shillong, Aug 10: The East Khasi Hills District Badminton Association (EKHDBA) successfully hosted the 9th East Khasi Hills District Open Badminton Championship 2025 from August 7 to 9 at the JN Indoor Stadium, Polo, Shillong.
The three-day event attracted 103 participants across multiple age categories, with a total of 133 entries and 114 matches played.
The tournament, aimed at encouraging budding badminton talent in the district, featured competitions in Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, and senior men’s and women’s categories, including singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The event witnessed spirited performances, with players showcasing skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout.
On the final day, matches began at 10:00 AM, culminating in the prize distribution ceremony at 3:00 PM. Winners included Lateisha Nongtraw (U-13 Girls Singles), Maywell Pyngrope (U-13 Boys Singles), Inrity Nongtraw (U-15 Girls Singles), Haegan Diengdoh (U-15 Boys Singles), Gavin Kharbuki (U-17 Boys Singles and U-19 Boys Singles), Pratiksha Joshi (U-19 Girls Singles), Elsarica Umdor (Women’s Singles), and Gaurav Singh (Men’s Singles), among others.
The opening ceremony was chaired by EKHDBA President Pondora Rapsang and inaugurated by O.L. Suin, MLA of Mawsynram constituency, who lauded the association’s efforts in promoting the sport. The closing ceremony was graced by C.O. Rangad, Senior Vice President of the Meghalaya State Badminton Association (MSBA) and Adviser to EKHDBA, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included MSBA Vice President P. Laloo, MSBA General Secretary Rajesh Kamal, WKHDBA President T. Diengngan, and S. Massar.
EKHDBA Assistant Secretary J.M. Sun, who chaired the closing programme, extended his gratitude to all participants, dignitaries, and supporters, calling the event a resounding success in boosting the sport’s popularity among the youth of East Khasi Hills.
