SHILLONG, Aug 12: Eastern West Khasi Hills witnessed a series of major project inaugurations on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma unveiling new infrastructure and healthcare upgrades aimed at strengthening services in the district.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the Block Integrated Development Complex at the Mairang C&RD Block Office and launched newly upgraded facilities at Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital.
He also inaugurated the new building of Manai HS School and attended the silver jubilee celebration of the Presbyterian School.
The upgraded Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital now houses a Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU), and High Dependency Unit (HDU). Officials noted that these additions would significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to Shillong or other distant locations for critical care.
Sangma said the government remains committed to bringing essential services closer to the people. He outlined a broader vision for balanced socio-economic growth, which includes a new Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mairang, a district convention centre, improved street lighting, and continued work on the Shillong Secretariat Project at Mawdiangdiang.
He also announced upcoming tourism projects under the CM Elevate programme, as well as the expansion of PMAY (Awas Plus) to benefit an additional 2.8 lakh people.
The inauguration programme drew a large gathering, with Health Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Community & Rural Development Minister Abu Taher Mondal, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, and State Planning Board Chairman Metbah Lyngdoh in attendance, along with senior officials, local leaders, and residents.
The event concluded with a cultural performance by traditional artist and North East Young Talent Artistes Awardee Marborsing Marbaniang.
