SBI launches financial inclusion saturation drive in Nongpoh
NONGPOH, Aug 23: In a bid to achieve 100 per cent coverage under key government-backed financial inclusion schemes, the State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday organised a Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign at the District Library Hall, Nongpoh. The campaign, which was launched last month across India, aims to ensure universal access to flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Atal Pension Yojana, particularly targeting rural and remote areas. The programme in Nongpoh was attended by Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal as the chief guest, in the presence of Chief General Manager of SBI’s North East Circle, Prabhas Bose, General Manager of NW-2 NE Circle, Amaresh Kumar Jha, local residents, bank staff and district officials. As part of its CSR initiatives, SBI handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh for the provision of 420 benches in public institutions. On the occasion, the bank also distributed sanction letters to selected pineapple farmers and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), besides conducting a financial literacy session to spread awareness about banking facilities and financial services.
City schools partake in spelling bee competition
SHILLONG, Aug 23: Assam Club, Shillong, on Saturday organised an inter-school spelling bee competition at its premises, drawing young talents from across the city in what could be described a spirited celebration of language and learning. According to a statement here, a total of 18 students from Classes VI to VIII, representing various schools, took part in the contest, showcasing their vocabulary, confidence and command over the English language. The top honours went to Ibadabet L. Kshiar of Seven Set School, who secured the first prize, followed by Arianna Mayakika Susngi of Army Public School, Shillong, in second place. On the other hand, Baphinsangroi L. Nongrang of BK Bajoria School bagged the third prize, while Emily Malsawmkimi of Army Public School and Phinylla R. Nongrum of BK Bajoria School won the fourth and fifth prizes respectively. Winners were awarded trophies, certificates and prizes, while all participants were acknowledged for their effort and courage. “Parents, teachers, and guests lauded the initiative, commending Assam Club for creating a meaningful platform for young learners,” the statement said.
