SHILLONG, Aug 23: With no representation in the 60-member Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is making fresh efforts to revive its political base in the state.
Recently, the party held its state executive conference at Sangsok under the Tura Lok Sabha constituency, drawing representatives from district, block, Mahila and Yuva Morcha units.
The meeting was attended by NCP Northeastern states convenor Sanjay Prajapati and state president OK Sangma, a former MLA. During the conference, discussions focused on strengthening the organisation, addressing local issues and setting out future strategies.
Prajapati said the party’s base in Meghalaya was becoming stronger and urged members to engage with people directly.
On the other hand, Sangma highlighted gaps in education, health and employment in Tura and adjoining areas, while calling on Yuva and Mahila Morcha workers to conduct awareness campaigns in rural regions.
Meanwhile, the Mahila Morcha stressed the need for schemes on women’s empowerment through self-employment and skill development, while the Yuva Morcha pressed for policy changes to expand education and job opportunities.
Local leaders also flagged concerns over infrastructure, unemployment and environmental protection.
District and block representatives discussed booth-level strategies, and Prajapati urged the use of digital platforms and social media for wider outreach.
