India’s Anandkumar wins historic bronze at Speed Skating World Championships

Beidaihe, Sep 15: Indian speed skater Anandkumar Velkumar made history by winning the nation’s first-ever senior medal at the Speed Skating World Championships, claiming bronze in the 500m+D sprint event.
Velkumar, 22, from Tamil Nadu, showcased exceptional speed and composure to finish on the podium, marking a significant milestone for India in roller sports. Just a day earlier, he had also made headlines with a bronze in the 1000m sprint at the World Games, highlighting his consistency on the international stage.
His achievement follows a trail of notable successes, including a silver at the 2021 Junior World Championships and a bronze in the 1000m inline speed skating at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. (Agencies)
