Indian Premier League
New Delhi, March 31: In an era where noise often drowns nuance, Auqib Nabi has quietly carved a space of his own — built not on hype, but on balance, clarity, and an unwavering belief in his craft.
Fresh from securing an INR 8.4 crore deal with Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2026 mega auction, the 29-year-old pacer chose to stay away from the spotlight. Back home in Baramulla, even as celebrations unfolded around him, Nabi remained tucked away, preferring silence over spectacle. It was a reflection of a personality those close to him often speak about — understated, composed, and deliberate. That calmness, however, does not dilute his confidence. If anything, it sharpens it.During the recently concluded Ranji Trophy season, Nabi stood out as a match-winner for Jammu & Kashmir. Ahead of the final against Karnataka, when asked by bowling coach P Krishnakumar about the challenge of facing established Indian batters like KL Rahul and Karun Nair, Nabi’s response was as simple as it was striking — he backed his team to bowl the opposition out for under 300.He then went on to do exactly that.Nabi’s figures of 5 for 54 played a pivotal role in Jammu & Kashmir clinching their maiden Ranji Trophy title. His early spell, which included the wickets of Rahul and Nair, set the tone on a surface that offered little assistance, underlining both his skill and his tactical clarity. That same clarity has been evident across formats. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Nabi finished with 15 wickets in seven matches, maintaining an economy rate of 7.41. He followed it up with another consistent showing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, claiming 14 wickets in seven games at an economy of 5.76. Adding another dimension to his game, he also registered a remarkable maiden List A century, rescuing his side from 90 for 7 with an unbeaten 114 to script an improbable victory. For Krishnakumar, who has worked closely with Nabi over the past three years, the foundation of this success lies in discipline and an unrelenting work ethic.
Nabi, he says, never shies away from effort. From fitness drills to skill sessions, the pacer has shown a rare consistency, constantly pushing his limits. His preparation has been methodical — from perfecting inswinging yorkers to developing a deceptive back-of-the-hand slower ball, all while building endurance through rigorous training routines.
