HC takes up the cause of juveniles

SHILLONG: High Court of Meghalaya has taken up the issue of supplying safe drinking water to the juveniles.
During the hearing of a PIL on Tuesday, the court said the report of the Juvenile Justice Committee on its visit to the Juvenile Homes was awaited.
In terms of the last order June 1, the respondents were to show cause as to why the plant for ensuring supply of safe drinking water was not accomplished.
The Advocate General had assured that whatever will be required for supply of safe drinking water to juvenile homes will be done in priority.
During the hearing on Tuesday, the Advocate General produced copy of an inspection note which has been prepared by the Director of Social Welfare, suggesting that a joint inspection has been conducted on June 8.
Regarding the construction of water treatment plant at Juvenile Home, Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong, 90% of work has been completed, the remaining materials have already been supplied and installation will start from Tuesday as informed by the contractor.
It was stated that the work will be completed within 3 to 5 days.
The court adjourned the matter for three weeks and the Advocate General has been asked to apprise on the next date the latest status.
