Former St. Anthony’s teacher breathes his last

GUWAHATI: Prabhat Chandra Talukdar, a former teacher in Physics at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, breathed his last on September 18 at his Beltola residence in Guwahati at the age of 85.
He was born in Bohori Satra in Barpeta district of Assam and had his schooling in the oil town of Digboi in eastern Assam.
After passing his matriculation examination from Digboi, he moved to Guwahati to pursue higher studies in Cotton College from where he passed his B.Sc examination and went on to secure his Master’s Degree in Physics from Gauhati University with flying colours.
He started his professional career as a teacher in Physics in St. Anthony’s College, Shillong and later shifted to B N College, Dhubri where he taught Physics till he retired as a professor.
He was married to a highly educated girl from Shillong. Though he had settled down in Dhubri while working in B N College, later he shifted to Guwahati to facilitate in the interest of higher education of his three sons.
An active tennis player, Talukdar maintained sound health till his retirement.
He used to maintain very close rapport with the leading citizens of the society while he was in Dhubri.
He is survived by his three sons, daughters-in-laws and grandchildren.
His youngest son, Dr Bibhab Talukdar is a renowned wildlife biologist and Secretary General of Aaranyak, a top-bracket nature conservation and research organisation based in Guwahati.
