SHILLONG, Sep 9: Poor waste management practices among several vendors came to light as Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) conducted an inspection of food stalls across Laitumkhrah to promote cleanliness and hygiene.
In the drive, which began at Iew Shyllong and extended to the Laitumkhrah Main Road on Tuesday, many food stalls were found without proper waste disposal systems, Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs), or the mandatory Certificate of Consent from the MSPCB.
The inspection team included two Rangbah Shnong PS Nongkynrih and TD Myrboh, along with MSPCB Senior Environmental Engineer Wanshanbor Kharkrang.
The traditional heads urged stall owners to install ETPs and adopt hygienic practices to protect both the environment and public health. Kharkrang said the inspection was part of efforts to monitor waste management and food safety standards. They also urged other Dorbar Shnongs to conduct similar checks in their localities to strengthen community participation in maintaining hygiene.
