SHILLONG, June 30: The state government is considering a unified command structure for the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), with a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) heading the centre to coordinate with various departments and improve operational efficiency.
After reviewing the functioning of the ICCC on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the centre is already being used by the Police, Urban Affairs Department and Municipal authorities and has proved to be a useful platform, adding that it will be strengthened further to improve coordination among departments and enhance the delivery of public services across Meghalaya.
He added that during the review, officials suggested integrating drone technology into the command centre’s operations and installing more surveillance cameras to improve monitoring, emergency response and overall public safety across the state. Sangma said greater integration of departments will further strengthen coordination and eventually allow the ICCC’s services to be expanded beyond Shillong to other parts of Meghalaya. “The objective is to see how we can further improve its functioning and make it more productive,” he said.
Referring to his recent visit to the Telangana Command Control Centre, he said that the ICC in Hyderabad enables better micro-management of emergency situations, including ensuring that ambulances reach accident sites and other emergency locations in the shortest possible time.
