SHILLONG: Despite opposition from the Health and Family Welfare department, the State Government has given permission for conducting of a ‘special’ interview for the two candidates including the son of a former senior IAS officer who have applied for MBBS and BDS courses under the State reserved quota.

Out of the two candidates, one of them Rimeiaki War is the son of Chief Information Officer CD Kynjing while the other candidate Divya Prakash is the ward of a senior official of the ICAR.

Official sources informed that the special interview was conducted at the Shillong Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

According to official sources, the two candidates had requested the department to allow them to sit for an interview since they could attend the interview which was conducted for all the candidates on June 22 last both in Shillong and Tura.

“The department forwarded the request of the two students to the Government for consideration. But the department has also made it clear that the request should not be entertained since it would create a wrong precedent,” official sources said.

Official sources also stated that if this allowed then other students would also request to conduct special interviews for them.

“The department would never be able to end the process of selecting candidates for various MBBS and BDS courses, “official sources said.

Interestingly, official sources informed that Kynjing son’s failed to attend even this special interview.

Meanwhile there is a lot of anxiety among students and their parents as the results of the MBBS, BDS and allied health sciences conducted by the Health Department of the Government are yet to be announced. “In most states the medical courses have begun. We don’t understand why the interview results should be held up for so long. Now we know it is for accommodating special candidates,” a vexed parent awaiting the results of his son’s interview ranted.
