Shillong: The city police have decided to conduct surprise checking on pharmacies located in the city to keep a track on the illegal selling of tablets and capsules without doctors’ prescriptions.

“Steroids and tablets are sold on prescriptions and selling them without the same is illegal”, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said.

The decision came after the arrest of one person who was caught for selling strips of capsules to two young boys who were recently apprehended by the police from Malki Football Ground.

The arrested person has been identified as Sajol Das of Brenda Pharmacy, Laitumkhrah Nongrim Road.

“The Police is further enquiring into the matter and we have also kept a close watch on other pharmacies in the city to check on the illegal selling of these capsules”, the EKH SP added.

According to the police, on information fed by the two boys, L Henry Osmond and Joshua Lalmua who were recently apprehended, the District Anti-Narcotic Task Force laid a trap in which Das was caught red handed with seventy-one strips (568 tablets) of Spasmo Proxibon tablets.

It may be recalled that Osmond and Lalmua were caught while smoking cannabis and seven strips of capsules were recovered from their possession at Malki football ground here recently.
