Kohima: Along with the rest of the nation, Nagaland is observing vigilance week under the theme ‘Transparency in public Procurement.’ In a message, Governor Nikhil Kumar said corruption destroys all democratic institutions and severely and adversely affects all aspects of development. He pointed out that India’s economic growth and development in the last two decades following economic reforms have been acknowledged world over.

He said, ‘One of the most important requirements is intellectual conviction in society about honesty and integrity.’ He emphasised the need to put hearts and minds together in building this intellectual conviction which should lead to considerable cleansing of the system. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, said the state vigilance commission has been doing a commendable work however, he added the task of combating corruption should not be left to the commission alone and all should participate in the fight against it. Rio also highlighted that public procurement is an activity vulnerable to corruption and added there should be transparency, accountability and probity in such procurements. (UNI)
