Grand Council meet

SHILLONG: The meeting of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, held at Lumbasuk, Demthring, here on Monday discussed the content of letter from the KHADC to the chiefs, on the proposed 6th Schedule Amendment Bill 2012 to the Constitution of India.

The meeting decided to urge the KHADC to urgently convene the meeting of the Sub-Committee constituted recently to discuss the matter. In a statement issued here, John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya said that as per the proposed Amendment Bill, there is a reference to the plan allocation by finance commission to the District Councils.

He also said that the Union Home Ministry had also noted that State Government and the District Councils should intimate to the ministry regarding the codification of traditional laws.

The Chiefs also resolved to pursue the Instrument Of Accession and Amended Agreement of Aug 1947 which would facilitate the constitution of a special Council for the tribal governing institutions here which should be party less.
