SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) could be in a spot of bother over the recent vandalism during the Union sponsored procession as the East Khasi Hills district administration has filed an FIR after the police cited aberrations on the part of the students’ body.

According to police, W. Biam, Magistrate, East Khasi Hills lodged a complaint at Shillong Sadar Poilice station that on April 4, the District Administration had given a permission to Auguster Jyrwa, the General Secretary, KSU for organizing a traditional drum beating procession from Madan Iewrynghep via Dhankheti, Malki Point, Barik Point, Civil Hospital Point, General’s Point and then turn towards Butcher Road up to Motphran. “However, those in the procession, violated the terms and condition of the permission by diverting the procession via Main Secretariat-Police Bazar route”, the complaint said.

Besides the FIR, two more inquiries have been ordered by the State Government to find out the reasons which led to the incidents of crime.

While a magisterial probe will be conducted by magistrate DM Wahlang, senior Government official RV Suchiang will also carry out another high level probe into the incident.

Around 17 shops were vandalized and 11 people assaulted during the procession on Thursday.
