Amar Sports Club lift 40-plus cricket trophy

SHILLONG: New Age Welfare Society, Jail Road, concluded its 40-plus day & night tennis ball cricket tournament on Saturday evening in the Jail Road Puja Mandap premises.

The tournament was won by Amar Sports Club, who defeated Elite Cricketers in the final.

The tournament, which started on April 20 saw eight teams fight it out for the top honours.

The other teams were Jail Road Samrat 8, KP Warriors, Bandhob Gosthi, Lower Jail Road Kings, Vanga Titans, and Evergreen CC.

In the final, the toss was won by Amar SC and they decided to bat first.

In the alloted 15 overs, they scored scored 121 all out. Babla Das top-scored with 47 runs, while Nipu Barua made 25. Debojyoti Bhattacharjee claimed figures of 4-30 and Gordon Rynjah took 2-8.

In reply, Elite Cricketers could only manage 94 all out in 14.3 overs. After his impressive bowling performance, Debojyoti Bhattacharjee made 41 with the bat. Siddharth Barua and Ujjal Dey shared two wickets each in their team’s 27-run victory.

The Man-of-the-Match was Babla Das, with Debojyoti Bhattacharjee taking the Man-of-the-Series award.

Nipur Barua was adjudged best batsman, while Gordon Rynjah was best bowler.

Manna Das took the maximum sixes award, having hit nine in the tournament.
