SHILLONG: The State Government is yet to examine the action taken report (ATR) submitted by the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) last month pertaining to the alleged practice of nepotism in the corporation.

The report, which was supposed to be submitted within one week from the issuance of a directive by the Commissioner and Secretary in-charge Commerce and Industries, (vide letter no.: IND 90/2013/15 dated 18th June, 2013) asking the Managing Director (MD) of the Corporation to terminate with immediate effect, all the appointments of temporary staff, was only made available towards the end of July. MIDC MD, Hawaiki Kyndiah said that the delay was caused as the matter had to be taken up at a board meeting which was held only this month. The MIDC has been in the news for wrong reasons, mainly after the allegations of nepotism which came to light through documents obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. It was detected that the appointment of some temporary staff was done without following the terms and conditions of the Service Rules of the Corporation.

The MD, who came under scanner for appointing his son, KP Shilla as a management trainee and his brother, Balam Kyndiah, a bungalow peon, without abiding by the terms and condition of the Service Rules of MIDC, has retired and the post is yet to be filled.
