SHILLONG: New underground organizations mushrooming in the Garo Hills are wooing ANVC-B cadres who are frustrated over the failure of the Meghalaya government to set up designated camps for them, according to the ANVC-B leadership.

In a statement issued here, ANVC-B resented that the government was yet to finalize designated camps for its cadres. The outfit was waiting for the designated camps, but there was no response.

ANVC-B is in a peace pact with the government since January 2013. “The delay is putting doubts in the minds of the cadres and making them frustrated,” the statement from the outfit said, urging the state government to abide by its commitment to provide the camps.

Meanwhile, the outfit has set up a helpline for any clarification with regard to extortion drives going on in Garo Hills in the name of the outfit. The statement said some miscreants were using the name of the organisation to extort money from civilians.

“Old letter pads are being circulated to demand money from prominent citizens. ANVC-B has therefore set up a dedicated a helpline for any clarification.,” the statement said

The outfit made it clear that ANVC-B did not authorise anyone to collect money or use its letter pads for illegal activities.
