Highest-ever voter turnout in Assam

Guwahati: A record 80.08 per cent voters exercised their franchise in the three phased-general elections in Assam, highest ever turnout in the state in either Lok Sabha or Assembly polls. The polling percentage in the last 2009 general elections in the state was 69.58 per cent.

Election Commission sources said here 80.74 per cent male voters exercised their franchise against 79.36 per cent female voters.

The third phase of polling recorded maximum turnout of 82.20 per cent, while the voter turnout in the first two phases were 78.74 per cent and 76.45 per cent respectively.

Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency registered the highest voter turnout with 88.49 per cent -male-female break-up being 89.20 and 87.74.

Jaleswar Assembly segment under Dhubri constituency witnessed the highest polling with a percentage of 91.30, followed by Mankachar (90.96), South Salmara (90.64), Bilasipara West (89.10), and Goalpara West (88.62).

Female voters outnumbered male in Barpeta and Tezpur parliamentary constituencies.

The three-phased polling for 14 seats in the state was conducted on April 7, 12 and 24 respectively.
