TURA: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi, has informed that some traders and merchants of Tura urban and within the district of Garo Hills dealing with essential commodities, foodstuffs, packaged food items and other goods are selling commodities which are inferior in quality, adulterated and have manufacturing defects to the consumers.
The Deputy Commissioner has warned such shop owners and traders and strictly directed them to ensure that all commodities like food grains, foodstuffs, packaged goods and non food items that are sold to the consumers are in good condition, well preserved with manufacturing guarantees and free from health hazards and violation of consumer rights.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that any trader not adhering to the directive will be viewed seriously and liable to be punished under the Essential Commodities Act, 1995; The Consumer Protect Act, 1986; the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Act, 2002, the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980 and the Food Safety and Standard Act 2006, Rules 2011, Regulations 2011.
